Dusted of the Tig to have a little bash and its not playing the game, as soon as its turned on the gas is constantly flowing and the foot pedal has no effect, no arc at all but when pressed I can hear a relay clicking in the welder.

I've tested the foot pedal, both the switch part and potentiometer seem to be fine, I've taken the covers off the welder and given it a good blow out and checked for loose connections etc.

I don't suppose any spares are available for it so guess I'm Tigless

Theres a good man this end for mig/tig/arc welder repairs if you get stuck Bruce. He knows his stuff and can normally source or adapt something that will give you a decent repair.

If you could send his details over Bob that would be great.

I've checked the gas solenoid and that seems to open and close fine, I found if I switched it to stick mode then it would close the gas valve off, switch it back to tig and gas is permanently on. I found a little relay on the main PCB, it has a clear cover and I can see it opening and closing as I switch between stick/tig mode. I cant get any arc out of it at all.

Am thinking that its possibly a control board issue. Typical, was gong to get on with it this weekend

Bob, further to our convo I had another chat with Tech Arc, the guy who designed the kingfisher range works there :D

The risk of an obsolete PCB going missing in the post and the benefit that they can do a full test if/after they repair it means a trip to York with the complete unit is a no brainer, guess where I'm going tomorrow.

Got the TIG back from Technical Arc, main PCB repaired for £165 inc VAT + £60 to deliver it back.

Compared to replacing it and also its age I thought that was very reasonable.

At least you still have a quality built tig set Bruce, I would sooner chuck money at that than go Chinese.
