I'm almost done with the 'Mule' chassis' it's 100mm wider than standard and I've messed around with the gear tunnel sections, its rough, rusty and FREE to anyone who wants to use it for mock up purposes for those 'non standard builds'. Pics are in in my build thread.

A big thanks to Bob (Robo) for letting me use and abuse it

I really need the space, any takers?

I know it's a long shot, but do you still have the mule chassis taking up space?

Hi Rob, yes I still have it, but its kinda busy - lending itself to being a hanging place for all the junk I cant find anywhere else to put

Seriously though its still just sitting on my build table and as I'm adamant I'm going to get some building done this year and am steadily working through a large list of jobs I have to get done first, finding a new home for the mule will be another of those jobs ticked off and if it goes to another builder who can make use of it then happy days, as stated before, its rough and rusty (but free!!!) and has been cut and shut with a 100mm fill in piece to widen it for mock up.

If you want it, its yours ... The only condition is you post some pics up of what you do with it

That sounds like a deal to me!

You're just north of London, right?

I will be driving with friends from London to Nottingham 18 April and back to London 20 April. Maybe I could swing by for a quick look?

From looking at the pics you posted "The Mule" is still perfectly usable. It's just 100mm wider and needs some sanding and painting, right?

My eventual plans are to put an inline 6 cylinder in it. ;)
The one I plan to use is just a little bit older technology than your V8...
Would you mind terribly if "The Mule" were to make its way over to the US with me, or do you prefer that I pass it on instead?

Yes I'm about 30 miles north of London just of the A1. I'm going to try and drag it out tomorrow as I need to ping a level line around the shed so I will get some better pics of it, its perfectly usable as a mock up chassi but I wouldn't want to see it go on the road, I have no idea who originally constructed it and a few of the welds look a bit suspect plus my butchery lol.

Your more than welcome to take it back to the US with you, maybe once your finished with it it can help someone over there.

I'l post some pics up tomorrow for you.

It sounds perfect to me! I've been pouring over the pics you've posted so far and it looks more usable than not. ;) At least I won't be afraid to learn some welding skills on it.

And it's WAY better than I could weld together.

Would you be able to email me the files you made with the chassis dimensions? I've tried to expand them to be able to read the measurements, but doing that blurs the numbers too much.

I've done some archaic measurement comparisons on graph paper using the standard Book chassis and the McSorley 442 derivatives to see how I can make my Chrysler Slant 6 fit. It looks like perhaps the modifications you've made widening the Mule and adjusting the top bulkhead may actually work! :o

So don't be surprised if some day,... some day... "The Mule" winds up sitting on all fours powered by a fire breathing 225 cubic inch "Leaning Tower of Power" tearing up dragstrips and autocross courses!!

I'll shoot you a PM with my email address.

Hi Rob, I managed to get some pics, I will dig out the dimensions during the week and try to scale them so you can read them.

Hope bruce doesn't mind me jumping in with my words of wisdom

rob whilst I know bruce wants the mule out of the way its not really a viable contender to be building into an actual roadster due the rust in it and the fact that bruce choped it in half straight up the middle then welded 100mm spacers In to make it wider than standard

Bruce is a very brave man with his build plans but he has the mule and is still intending to build a fresh chassis there is a roadster project for sale on the haynes that i think you have expressed an interest in

I know I am not helping bruce in getting the mule out of the way but i cant sit on my hands thinking that you would potentally be putting your life at risk by putting the mule on the road

Take the mule chop it about to see if your plans will work out but for gods sake dont try and put it on the road

if you are worried about your wedlding skills talon on the haynes can build you a new chassis that although I have not seen one in the flesh the reports say that his workmanship is spot on

Fair enough...

Points well taken...

Can I at least sit in it, make "Vroom Vroom" noises and PRETEND that it has a fire breathing 225 cubic inch "Leaning Tower of Power" tearing up dragstrips and autocross courses?

Seriously though. I hear you. The Mule is the perfect solution for me to get my hands on one of these, learn some welding and fabrication skills and build some confidence that I might be able to pull off a scratch build myself.

The seller of the McSorley chassis on Locostbuilders wouldn't ever reply to my U2Us, so I've given up on that one. There are a couple chassis on eBay, but other than the pics and descriptions I don't know that they are actually any better than the Mule.

So I'll still plan to use the Mule for its intended purpose of being just that... a Mule. I promise. ;)

Thank you for the sanity check.

And thanks again Bruce for the jump start on my Locost Adventure! :D
