Made a bit more progress - bit the bullet and bought a MIG set the other day - just got a few bits and pieces to weld up and then I will really have to apply the paint to the whole thing and actually start building it! Some pics of my welding efforts, and other bits and pieces, here: https://meandthekitcar.wordpress.com/

No - I had heard of it - but didn't look at it properly so thanks for the link. I will get the spreadsheet out and try and work out what's best at some point - but I really just wanted to get cracking!

And on that note - I think I've done all the welding I need to - at least to be able to get the chassis painted! Hurrah! Couple of pics on my blog...

Finally got some paint on my chassis. Spent hours cleaning up the rusty metal with a sandpaper disc in an angle grinder, some wet and dry and a cup brush in the angle grinder. After that I used muc-off degreaser, then some por marine clean and finally loads of fairy washing up liquid to degrease the metal.

Then I used the por metal prep which left some weird powdery deposits on the steel.

Finally I bit the bullet and rolled on some of the por rust preventative paint. It's inky stuff and a tiny can covered most of the chassis. Coverage doesn't look great, but it does seem to have adhered very well, I'll leave it for a few days then check out how it looks.

Fingers crossed!!!
