Bought a Dolomite 1500 and gearbox before Christmas.
Just pulled it apart today and found the sump full of watery sludgy crud.Oil pump was full of clear water so suspect it entered via the dizzy whist stored outside. However no obvious damage all now cleaned up . Bores ,pistons and crank are shiny clean so looks OK.
Q. If there is no indication of size on crank shells can I presume they are standard?
Just measure the crank Ayjay, a decent digital vernier will do the job. Most crank bolts are normal threads,I have only come across one engine that had a left hand thread on the damper bolt.

Yes but my mate has it now!
Not touched it since the Haynes became "live" :D
Got a list of things to do over the winter on the Haynes eg strip and tweak squeaking sus mounts, repaint and wrap remake/upgrade dash etc . So it was mothballed . mate been pestering me for it so I let it go    Hes fired up with it so that's good and I will see it in all its glory(mind you he hasn't paid anything for it yet
