Hi and welcome to the dark side

I don't recall ever reading of anyone using 1.2mm but I do remember reading that the weight difference between 1.6 and 2.0 wasn't huge. I think with that in mind if it was me personally then for the chassis I'd be tempted to stick with tried and tested sizes mainly in the case of an impact and hoping it to be able to provide some protection. But I'm no chassis designer so that's just a thought to add in the mix.

Look forward to seeing your progress.

The weight saving is in the region of 0.279 kg/m using 1.2 mm as apposed to 1.6mm but as for strength difference I am not sure personally I would go for strength over weight on the chassis but look into it more . the difference in weight using the 1.2 would be about 11kg for the 25mm tube (7x6m lengths) you could easily save that else where and not risk safety IMHO.

Before you make a decision on the wall thickness of the tube have a look at the way the suspension brackets are mounted. This is an area I have been looking at , to me I would be nervous of anything less that book for fear of these brackets tearing off the chassis. I have gone 2mm and will be adding some strength to these areas.

I may be mistaken but I think that is one of Talon's, you could always give Phil a shout directly.

I think this was covered on the haynes site but the search engine is shite so best of luck looking.. It would pay to have a length of each size spare just to cover the inevitable cock ups
