That seems a damn good price you got there Dan :D where was that from?

My local price is about £22 per 6m length of 2.0mm (14 SWG)

i had a walk round the local steel stockist this week before i buy my steel, i have a few questions,
so the chassis is 25mm square 2mm thick but they list different grades what do i buy?
looking round the web some companies use round tube for the diagonal bracing is there any benefit to this over the book design?

2mm wall thickness if you are going heavy duty, then you have erw vs cds. ERW is a clean bright product that will be easier to weld and finish, CDS some would argue is stronger but in reality not in the way that would make a difference to a chassis. Round tubes in the build will cause problems fixing panels and any other bracketry so IMHO just stick with square except for the rear body hoops . One of Talons flat pack chassis`s will save a lot of grief with the cutting .

Welcome I would think about building a strong stiff chassis you can lose the weight elsewhere if it means that much to you

Lots of cleaning mill scale off with CDS :(

Its worth the time to clean up all the tube prior to cutting , its easy enough to protect the tube and degrease prior to paint than try to clean off all the scale after the chassis is built. Even the ERW is worth buffing off prior to cutting.

thanks guys i will go in and speak to the suppliers and see exactly what they stock , some of the stuff was exactly square and some had slightly rounded corners, i guess that was the difference between the erw and cds, not really bothered about the cleaning i have the kit to do it, likewise prefer strength over weight saving

anyone know if talon is still trading? his web site lists everything as sold out, his flatpack kit price isnt much more than my local stockist. they have quoted me £270 for erw.
