I just completed a total rebuild of my cars engine from the stock engine and had to re-fabricate new intake manifold with plenum, sump mods and oil pickup, starter and alternator moved to left hand side of engine for simplicity and less over crowding of the engine on the turbo side.
The W58 gearbox was modified to take internal concentric thrust release bearing (Opel Astra unit used) and the engine is now ready for installation.

Should go like greased lightning

Nothing to do this afternoon and decided to pop the engine and gearbox into car. The the gearbox is fitted to engine and the combo slid into place without hassles.

Luckily everything clear everything and space between engine and bonnet is 12mm and the bottom of sump exactly level with bottom of lower chassis rail.
here are a few pics.

And here is the engine to bonnet clearance which is about 12mm. The bonnet is laminated with 4mm CoreMat sandwich which is very light and stiff and absolute self supporting.
