There's a bit about what i'm intending to do: http://meandthekitcar.wordpress.com/the-spec/ then most of the rest of it is the usual, bog roll, style updates. It's as much to remind me what I did rather than anything else!!!
Well, after lots of fiddling round the edges of little jobs we got down to some good ol' fashioned 'sticking lumps of metal together' last night! Pictures here!
A couple of bits weren't quite as neatly lined up as we would have liked, and some of the welds look a bit scrappy - but we can clean them up and go again now stuff is in place.
Really chuffed with how much progress we made in 2 and a half hours - feels like a massive leap forward!!!
Another bit of progress. Moved house in March/April and the new place needed a bit of work just to make it liveable, so the car hasn't progressed much. 1st child will arrive any day now, and the missus is basically beached on the sofa, so I took advantage of a free weekend to try and make some progress.
Need to do a checklist to make sure everything is covered, but I think I have got everything that needs welding to the chassis ready to go. Just need to convince my welding brother-in-law to take time off from building his own house to stick all the bits together!!!
I just done some catch up on your blog. You will be at the bolting up stage soon The painting is a contentious issue on a forum, everyone has their favorite for whatever reason but I would go for the 2k primer and top coat. It goes hard within a day, not like the air drying synthetics like chassis black which stay soft for an age.
Yeah, I can't decide what order to do the next steps in at the moment. Floor seems an obvious step but I've got a full Equinox bodykit waiting to go on and am wondering whether to rivet the sides and the floor on all at the same time. On the other hand I want to leave the sides off as long as possible as it makes it easier to get under the dash, etc - and it's less likely to get damaged that way - but the car needs to be upside down for the floor to go on so it'd all need stripping to fit the floor anyway......
Rivet the floor on first then temp fit side panels so you can trim holes. They don't really get in the way too much but you want to bond them on at the end. Bond the floor on first tho
Another day of work - mainly getting everything ready for when I can rope my brother-in-law in to do the welding. Nice to have a 'to do list' written up - hopefully it'll stop me missing anything off-last time I could get him to lend me a hand was 3 months ago, if I'd realised i'd have to wait this long i'd have been better prepped first time round!!
